Explore and learn about British Columbia's forestry history at the BC Forest Discovery Centre in Duncan, British Columbia, which includes three kilometres of operational narrow gauge railway, exhibits and artifacts, hiking trails, marshland and more within the 100 acre, open air museum.

Located in Duncan, British Columbia, the BC Forest Discovery Centre is a 100 acre, open air museum which also includes an operational railway.

Opened in 1965, the Cowichan Valley Forest Museum (now the BC Forest Discovery Centre) was opened, encompassing the expansive personal collection of G.E. (Gerry) Wellburn. In 1974 the site was designated a historic site, ensuring the public would continue to enjoy the exhibits spanning the region's forestry history.

One of the Centre's most popular attractions is it's almost three kilometres of narrow gauge railway which winds through the museum's grounds and includes a trestle over Somenos Lake. Visitors can ride one of two trains, the 1910 steam locomotive, the Samson and the gas powered Green Hornet. Dozens of buildings throughout the site house a wide variety of exhibits and artifacts including old forestry vehicles, examples of historic logging practices, several trains, the history of British Columbia's forestry industry and how . Visitors can also explore the area's walking trails through the museum's forest and surrounding marshland.

The BC Forest Discovery Centre offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of British Columbia's forestry industry through exhibits, heritage buildings and logging artifacts as well as special events, workshops and activities. A place for all ages, this open air museum is a great place to learn and explore.
