Explore Victoria, British Columbia's Beacon Hill Park - a popular city locale established in 1882. Its beautifully manicured lawns and gardens are home to a wide variety of rare and endangered plants and birds - as well, historic buildings, structures and monuments are found throughout the Park such as the World's largest totem pole and Mile "0" of the 8,000 kilometre Trans-Canada Highway.

Located on the southern edge of the capital of British Columbia, Victoria, Beacon Hill Park has been a popular locale since its establishment in 1882.

Encompassing 183 acres (74 hectares), Beacon Hill Park was named in 1843 for the two beacons on Mount Beacon that were lined up to mark Brotchie Ledge in by the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1889, Scottish architect John Blair won the competition to landscape the park creating the manicured lawns, flower beds, stone bridges, lakes and ponds throughout the Park. Upwards of two thousand trees and shrubs were planted throughout the Park - many of which continue to be enjoyed today. In 2009 the Park was designated a municipal heritage site,

There are many unique places to visit within the Park (map) including the Beacon Hill Children's Farm and the World's largest totem pole made from Western Red Cedar and standing at an astonishing 160 meters tall (carved in 1956 by Chief Mungo Martin and carvers David Martin and Henry Hunt). As well, Beacon Hill Park is the western terminus of Mile "0" of the 8,000 kilometre Trans-Canada Highway. Popular activities throughout the Park include bird watching, hiking, horse drawn carriage rides and sports (including a putting green, a watering garden and various fields).

Visit Victoria's Beacon Hill Park and enjoy its spectacular locale throughout the year to explore it to find its rare and endangered plants, manicured gardens as well as its historic buildings, structures and monuments.
