Best Photos of 2010 by Venture Vancouver

2010 has been a spectacular year for Vancouver and the surrounding region offering once in a lifetime events such as the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the four seasons which brought baby animals, beautiful flowers and back to a snowy winter wonderland. Throughout the year we've taken many photos, many of which we've shared on VentureVancouver.com and as 2010 comes to a close we've put together some of our favourite to share! Thank you for enjoying our site and accompanying us on our adventures through super, natural, British Columbia!

For those who call it home and for those who visit, Vancouver and its surrounding cities are a beautiful place and offer many photographic opportunities. Through our many adventures, we have taken many photos, many of which are displayed throughout VentureVancouver.com. Here are a few of our favourite photos of 2010 from the Olympic Winter Games to the snowy Cascade Mountains! Have a Happy New Year!

We had a chance to visit the Serpentine Fen Bird Sanctuary in South Surrey which had a few species of birds and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.These Sanderlings off Second Beach in Stanley Park are looking for a good meal in the sand!The 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver marked the first time in history spectators could touch the Olympic Medals.The Olympic Cauldron, lit during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver was a beautiful sight both day and night!

The roar that was heard around the world could be defined in 2010 as when the Canadian Men's Hockey Team scored and won gold during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver!Early Spring was a curse during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, but a welcome sight for winter weary Vancouverites who enjoyed the beautiful blossoms!These beautiful crocus' in Stanley Park were a preview of Springs beautiful wildflowers coming out for the season.This singing Red Winged Blackbird was ushering in Spring at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta.The 2010 Paralympic Winter Games began with the Canadian Navy sailing in the Paralympic Torch in March of 2010!2010 saw the Bloedel Flora Conservatory threatened with closure - however, the Conservatory and its avian residents were saved.Preening Green Parrot at the Bloedel Floral Conservatory in Vancouver, British ColumbiaUnlike the Bloedel Floral Conservatory, the Stanley Park Children's Farmyard was voted to close on January 2, 2011.Spring brought many new residents to Stanley Park's Lost Lagoon including many Canadian Geese goslings.Stanley Park's Lost Lagoon saw one Cygnet (Swan Chick) hatching in Spring 2010.Eagle release at the OWL Rehabilitation Centre in Delta, British Columbia,This rare sighting of a Grey Whale saw hundreds of onlookers vying to see the 40 foot whale as its way up and down False Creek.The Cloverdale Rodeo was an exciting event to watch as bucking broncos and bulls tried to throw off their riders!At the end of a seven kilometre hike, hikers along the Norvan Falls Trail come to a beautiful waterfall!2010 saw the end of an era as BC Place's air supported dome was deflated to make room for a permanent structure,In June we went on a tour which let us see Whistler's Black Bear population - it was amazing to see them up close!Rolley Falls at Rolley Lake Provincial Park is a spectacular day trip or camping weekend in Mission, British Columbia.One spectacular cultural experience we took was the chance to sail aboard an authentic replica of a Viking Longship in English Bay, the Munin.In 2010, Stanley Park partnered with the Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia to present the Klahowya Village.South Korea sent two Navy Vessels for visitors to climb aboard and explore at North Vancouver's Lonsdale Quay!The Kettle Valley Railway in British Columbia's Okanagan Region is a great weekend getaway to ride on a train pulled by a steam engine!The historic Hells Gate section of the Fraser River can be accessed by airtraim which offers a scenic ride through one of British Columbia's most daunting locales.Winter brings fresh snow to the surrounding Cascade Mountains as well as breathtaking views.Grouse Mountain's Peak of Christmas means the return of the reindeer to the top of the Mountain!Trying out our snowshoeing skills we hiked to the top of Dam Mountain which offers spectacular views on clear days!View East from the Dam Mountain Snowshoe trail atop Grouse Mountain.View of the Lions from the Dam Mountain Snowshoe trail in North Vancouver.
