Ski and Snowboarding in the Vancouver Region

The Vancouver Region is well known for its oceanside locale and its snowcapped mountains. In the winter months the region becomes a popular ski and snowboard area with three local mountains: Cypress, Grouse and Seymour as well as Whistler, a world renowned resort two hours north of the city.

Views from Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver during the ski season. Now that the Christmas Season is over what is better than checking out some of the best ski hills in Canada? Vancouver is based close to the Cascade Mountains and three of these - Seymour, Grouse and Cypress offer skiing and snowboarding.

Mount Seymour in North Vancouver is a day skiing hill on the eastern edge of the city.Mount Seymour is located on the eastern edge of North Vancouver and is only accessible by car. There is free parking at the top and there are several lifts. This is the best ski hill for beginners are the runs are shorter and the tickets are least expensive.

Grouse Mountain is the middle mountain and is easily accessible by bus and car. The Mountain can only be ascended by Gondola which takes skiers and snowboarders to Vancouver's highest point. Grouse Mountain also has night skiing and ice skating for interested parties.

The new chalet at Cypress Mountain is a great place to rest, warm up and grab a bite to eat.Cypress Mountain is the most westerly of the three Vancouver Mountains and like Grouse Mountain offers night skiing. The new chalet offers an escape from the cold outdoors and has the longest runs making it the most challenging. People can come to the mountain either by car or by the fleet of buses which take visitors from locations in the Downtown, North and West Vancouver.

Lastly, the ski resort of Whistler-Blackcomb which only offer day skiing but the range of difficulties on runs and their lengths brings skiers and snowboarders from around the world. The resort is world class and should be experienced if you are visiting the region.
