Haunted Buildings in Vancouver, British Columbia

Halloween is around the corner, so celebrate by learning about some of the Lower Mainland's haunted locales! From the Province's original capital of New Westminster and its spooky former insane asylum to buildings across the third largest city in Canada, Vancouver, there are no shortage of haunted tales in the region. Look for Hotel Vancouver's Lady in Red on the fourteenth floor, keep a look out for strange happenings in many of the theatres throughout the city or visit the city's oldest affluent homes which offer historic spirits. OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY: GASTOWN | 53 Water Street, Vancouver (map) | Considered Vancouver's most haunted restaurants, there have been reports of moving equipment, ghosts which have been spotted throughout the restaurant.
HOTEL VANCOUVER [THE FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER] | Hotel Vancouver: 900 West Georgia Street, Vancouver (map) | Look for the Lady in Red who is spotted gliding through the halls - inexplicably the elevator has also been known to take riders to the 14th floor where the ghost is often encountered.
ORPHEUM THEATRE | Orpheum Theatre: 884 Granville Street., Vancouver (map) | This Vancouver landmark has been plagued by strange events including unexplained sounds such as footsteps and the eerie ringing of phones which aren't plugged in.
VOGUE THEATRE | 918 Granville Street., Vancouver (map) | The theatre is said to house two ghosts. There have been many reports of unexplained noises and ghostly sightings of tall man in a white tuxedo and black bow tie.
BEATTY STREET DRILL HALL | 620 Beatty Street, Vancouver (map) | Eerie happenings have been reported for decades at this hall which is home to British Columbia's senior militia regiment including ghostly footsteps, sightings of a ghostly apparition and incidents of books and other objects falling.
HYCROFT MANOR | 1489 Mcrae Avenue, Vancouver (map) | Seven ghosts are thought to make this manor their ghostly roaming grounds including a general, several veterans and a nurse. Although seldom seen or heard during functions, the ghosts dislike filming as unexplained crying sounds and other happenings have plagued crews.
The Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver has been the site of many strange occurrences.UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA | Point Grey, Vancouver (map) | One ghost, that of an elderly lady has been spotted at the main library and another is that of a young woman who is seen hitchhiking on 16th Avenue - drivers report after stopping and offering her a ride she will disappear when asked where she would like to go.

BURNABY ART GALLERY | 6344 Deer Lake Avenue, Burnaby (map) | The Art Gallery is home to a ghostly woman who walks the halls as well as a man who stands at the top of the main staircase. Incidents of children crying, moving objects and sightings of children's faces in the windows have also been reported.
SHADBOLT CENTRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS | 6450 Deer Lake Avenue, Burnaby (map) | The ghost of an actress who drowned in the lake has been spotted performing and is said to be responsible furniture moving, power outages and other strange events.

NEW WESTMINSTER
GLENBROOK RAVINE PARK | Jamieson Court at Richmond Street, New Westminster (map) | Locals have reported seeing the ghostly figure of a man walking across the hill and then sounds of gun shots. It is believed that the ghost is a man who was killed in the park.
WOODLANDS SCHOOL | New Westminster (map) | Opened in 1878 as the Provincial Lunatic Asylum, the site later became a home for the mentally disabled. Former nurses reported hearing doors opening and closing on their own and ghostly children's voices.
