High Note Trail: Whistler

Starting at the summit of Whistler Mountain, 2,182 meters (7,087 feet) above sea level, High Note Trail is truly one of British Columbia's most spectacular day hikes. This rugged trail - sometimes no more than a foot wide, leads awestruck hikers through blooming alpine meadows (from late July through August), over waterfalls, through coniferous forests and past spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains, the Black Tusk and Cheakamus Lake. The trail meanders through the Flute Summit and into Symphony Bowl, past Symphony Lake and then up towards Harmony Lake before the trail ends at the Whistler Gondola download.

  • LOCATION: The trail begins behind the Inukshuk at the top of Whistler Mountain (take the Whistler Gondola from Whistler Village and then the Peak Express Chair to the summit) in Whistler, British Columbia - the trail begins behind the Inukshuk at the summit of Whistler Mountain which is 2,182 meters (7,087 feet) above sea level (map) [trail map]
  • DISTANCE: 9.4km return
  • TIME: Allow 3 to 5 hours
  • ACTIVITIES: Hiking
  • COST: Free - $74.95
  • POINTS OF INTEREST: The trail meanders along the edge of Whistler Mountain providing unparalleled views of the Cascase Mountain range (as well as Black Tusk), valley below and Cheakamus Lake before descending into Symphony Bowl, to Harmony Lake and back to the Whistler Gondola (also the location of the Roundhouse Lodge and Peak 2 Peak Gondola). From late July to August see the spectacular alpine meadow flowers (wildflower guide) and keep an eye (and ear) out for the Whistling Marmots (for which Whistler is named for) on the rocks.
  • OTHER INFORMATION: High Note Trail is only accessible in the summer months after the snow has melted. The trail is very narrow and steep in certain sections so it is very important to wear proper footwear, weather appropriate attire and pay attention to where you walk. Be sure to also plan to return to the Whistler Gondola before it shuts down for the evening (hours of operation). Note that hikers are not able to hike from Whistler Village to the start of the hike as Whistler Mountain is a bike park in the summer months - the trail is accessible only by Gondola.
