Inside the Seaforth Armoury in Vancouver

The Seaforth Armory located on Burrard Street is an interesting locale which appears out of place in Vancouver due to its castle-like construction, however, it plays an important role in the city as the home of the Seaforth Highlanders who have been a fixture in the city since 1910. Celebrating their 100th year on November 24th, 2010, the Armoury continues to house and train members of the Canadian Forces and also encompasses a museum chronicling the history of the Seaforth Highlanders through its collection of uniforms, medals, weapons, paintings and photographs.

Armoury on Burrard Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Seaforth Armoury located on Burrard Street (map) is a castle-like building which is a beloved city landmark operated by the Canadian Forces and is home to the Seaforth Highlanders. Founded in 1910, the Highlanders were fixtures at the Beatty Street Drill Hall until 1935 when this site was chosen and the Armoury was completed in 1936. Since their creation, the brave men (and women) who serve at the Seaforth Armoury have been involved in several military conflicts including World War I, World War II and one of their troops recently returned from Afghanistan. The Seaforth Armoury is also home to the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Regimental Museum and Archives, an official Canadian Forces Museum (with a collection of uniforms, medals, weapons, paintings and photographs) which is open during special events (such as Remembrance Day - November 11th - after the ceremonies at Victory Square) or can be viewed by appointment. Here are some photos of the interior which is rarely seen by the public:
