2010 Olympic Experience: International Pavilions

Visitors and locals alike can mingle and explore the world at the International Pavilions and Houses set up throughout the City to taste delicious dishes, drinks, interesting history and traditions, buy a worldly souvenir, experience the entertainment and meet and greet athletes and visitors to Vancouver from continents around the World!

Flag of SwitzerlandVisitors to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games can experience the World at the many International Pavilions and House venues found throughout the City:

  • HOUSE OF SWITZERLAND [Location: In the Bridges Restaurant in Granville Island across from the Public Market and near the False Creek Ferry dock] Hours: February 5-28: 8:00am - 1:00am | Information: House of Switzerland offers entertainment, culture, cuisine (including chocolate and cheeses) and Swiss athletes. Also look out for the amazing inushuk chocolate art piece.

  • KOREA HOUSE [Location: On the second floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel at 655 Burrard Street near W. Pender Street] Hours: February 12-28: 11:00am - 6:00pm | Information: Korea House is an interactive place to learn about Korea and its attempt for the 2018 Olympic Games.

  • Flag of Korea.CASA ITALIA [Location: Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown at Davie and Pacific Streets] Hours: February 12-28: 11:00am - 6:00pm | Information: Featuring Italian products and taste testing of Italian cuisine. It is mostly closed to the public.

  • IRISH HOUSE [Location: 620 Nelson Street at Seymour Street] Hours: February 8-28: 12:00pm - 3:00am | Information: Irish House features historical and cultural exhibits, cuisine and beverages, entertainment (traditional Celtic and modern) and promises to be one of the biggest parties in Vancouver. (entrance fees may apply - family friendly from noon to 7pm).

  • GERMAN FAN FEST [Location: 555 Cordova Street beside Waterfront Station in Gastown] Hours: February 12-28: 10:00am - 5:00pm (free); 6:00pm - 2:00am ($10) | Information: Flag of Germany. German Fan Fest provides a uniquely German experience with entertainment from Accostica a regional band from Thuringia, traditional cuisine and beverages from the region.

  • GERMAN SAXONY HOUSE [Location: The Vancouver Rowing Club in Stanley Park on the edge of Coal Harbour] Hours: February 12-28: 12:00pm - 2:00am | Information: Visitors to the German Saxony House can watch the games, meet athletes, explore the culture and art of Germany, listen to live music and sample traditional cuisine and drinks.

  • SLOVAK HOUSE [Location: Inside the Vancouver International Film Centre (at Davie and Seymour Streets)] Hours: February 12-28: 12:00pm - 12:00pm | Information: Enjoy traditional cuisine, entertainment and documentaries at the Slovak House - most events are not free. Flag of Sweden.

  • SCANDINAVIA HOUSE [Location: Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby at 6540 Thomas Street] Hours: February 12-28: 9:00am - 12:00pm | Information: Celebrating Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland, Scandinavia House offers televised events, visits from athletes and the King and Queen of Sweden and is the only International house in Burnaby.

  • UKRAINE HOUSE [Location: The Ukrainian Catholic Centre at 3150 Ash Street in Vancouver] Hours: February 12-13; 16-28: 12:00pm - Night | Information: Ukraine House featured coverage of Olympic events, youth dances, entertainment and a Ukranian Olympic ball.

  • HEINEKEN HOUSE (HOLLAND) [Location: The Richmond O Zone in Minoru Park] Hours: Flag of Russia.February 12-28: 9:00am - 2:00am | Information: Heineken House celebrates Holland with medal celebrations for athletes, nightly performances by dutch DJs and entertainers, activities, tasting of traditional foods and drinks and much more for everyone.

  • SOCHI HOUSE (RUSSIA) [Location: Inside Science World at the end of False Creek] Hours: February 11-28: 12:00pm - 5:00pm | Information: Russky Dom (Sochi House Russia) showcases the location for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and also offers meet and greets with Russian athletes, food, entertainment, movies and concerts. (Day-passes are available at the information desk or at the Accreditation Centre at the entrance.)

All these International Houses bring the World to Vancouver and almost all of these locations are free for visitors to explore and enjoy (unless otherwise indicated). So, sample some fine European dishes, meet international athletes and experience these unique locales!
