May Day 2010 Festivals in British Columbia

Celebrated for in many parts of British Columbia - in many cities for over a hundred years - May Day is a festival dating back historically to the Romans. Spring flowers, May Queens, May Pole dances and festivities are enjoyed as well as parades, fairs and entertainment. There are several May Day celebrations to enjoy and explore in British Columbia during the month of May in New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, Delta, Fort Langley, Hope and Nanaimo!

Flowers are an important element of May Day - especially white ones.May Day is deeply intertwined with the history of British Columbia and is usually celebrated on May 1st, however, many May Day festivals occur throughout the month - most taking place close to the long weekend, tying in with celebrations for the late Queen Victoria. May Day embraces spring with flowers, dances, food and entertainment. You can enjoy several historic May Day celebrations in British Columbia, some which date back over 130 years!

DELTA: LADNER PIONEER MAY DAYS | Date: May 28th - 30th | Time: 28th (3:00pm - 10:00pm); 29th-30th (10:00am - 6:00pm) | Cost: Free | Location: Memorial Park in Ladner Village, Delta (map) | Dating back to 1896, the Ladner Pioneer May Days includes a midway, bands, jugglers, musicians, a petting zoo, food, fairs and entertainment. On Sunday at noon the May Day Parade makes its way through the Village to Memorial Park for the traditional May Pole Dance and May Queen crowning ceremony. | Website
