Obscura Day at the Vancouver Police Museum

On March 20th, the World experienced the wondrous, the curious, and the esoteric during Obscura Day, and here in our little corner of paradise, the Vancouver Police Museum did an amazing job of showing the odd and interesting of the city through its old corners building, the autopsy room and forensic basement lab as well as outdoors where brothels once stood and Vancouver's Chinatown and Gastown to explore their unique (and colourful) histories!

Obscura Day Pins from the 4:00pm tour from the Vancouver Police MuseumThis weekend was an inner-city adventure as we joined up with dozens of other Vancouverites to explore the curiosities and wonders of Vancouver for Blood Alley Square near Gastown is one of the oldest regions in
the city of Vancouver.the 2010 Obscura Day Tour which is an international celebration of wondrous, curious, and esoteric places. Hosted by the Vancouver Police Museum, this tour took us through the halls of this former corners building exploring mysterious deaths, interesting artifacts, hidden secrets and the seedier side of our beautiful oceanside city.

This part indoor, part outdoor tour took us through the Museum and its underbelly as well as onto the streets of the east end and past places of interest such as Carnegie Public Library, to Vancouver's Chinatown and its alleys and through Gastown and nearby Trounce Alley (and equally interestingly named Blood Alley Square).

Although interesting in its own right, the Vancouver Police Museum was brought to life by Chris Mathieson during the Obscura Tour with interesting stories and historical locales along the streets of Vancouver! Go check out the Vancouver Police Museum to explore its exhibits and artifacts, programs for kids and adults as well as its Sins of the City Walking Tour (Summer) and hopefully their return to the Haunted Trolley Tour (Halloween)!

The Wall of Weird is located in the autopsy room at the Vancouver Police Museum.

Obscura Day participants also got a chance to check out the forgotten forensics room in the basement of the Vancouver Police Museum

Complete with tables, the autopsy room is a creepy place in the Vancouver Police Museum.

Exhibits on famous murders such as the unsolved case of the Babes in the Woods can be seen at the Vancouver Police Museum

The Obscura Tour took us past interesting Vancouver buildings such as the St. James Anglican Church.

John 'Gassy Jack' Deighton, the founder of Vancouver, was the last stop on the tour.

Beautiful Carnegie Public Library and its spectacular spiral staircase was a sight to see!

Vancouver Chinatown's Wang Sang building from 1886 also made an interesting stop with its opium passageway!
