Day Trip to the OWL Rehabilitation Centre and Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta

Brrr! This weekend was efficiently cold and rainy but that didn't deter us and many other people enjoying the sights and sounds of the Lower Mainland! This weekend we enjoyed some educational and interesting locales in Delta; the OWL Rehabilitation Centre and we paid another visit to the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary as well as some time close to home in Stanley Park in Vancouver and the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver!

Sarah the Barn Owl, one of several permanent residents, taking a nap inside the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. The OWL Rehabilitation Centre is home to three Snowy Owls, Kermit, Serenity and Piggy.Although the weekend was not very nice we still managed to get out and explore some new and interesting locales!

My favourite experience of the weekend was the OWL (Orphaned WildLife) Rehabilitation Centre in Delta, British Columbia which is dedicated to helping injured birds of prey and educating the public on these beautiful creatures. We had a wonderful volunteer who despite the cold weather introduced us to the resident birds (those which were too badly injured to return to the wild). We heard their stories and got to view them in their cages and it was very apparent the love and respect the Centre has for these birds.Rainbow over the Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park after a brief rain shower.

Also nearby is a Bald Eagle nest which is one of several on Hancock Wildlife's website which has live streaming video on these majestic birds rearing their young from webcams perched in the trees.

Unfortunately we were rained out at the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary which we visited before (we had some friends with children who were absolutely thrilled to be surrounded by all the ducks!) but we did manage to see the three resident Sandhill Cranes. The weather wasn't all bad this weekend as we caught a spectacular rainbow over the Lost Lagoon after a light rain on Saturday!

We hope you all had an excellent weekend and hope you guys got some ideas for the next one!
