2010 World Migratory Bird Day, British Columbia

May 8th, 2010 is a celebration of migratory birds across the world, and there are several events happening in British Columbia to celebrate the journey made by millions of birds twice a year. In British Columbia, the Pacific Flyaway sees thousands of birds fly through the region and is a crucial stop for them to feed and rest. Celebrate rare species of ducks, waders, song birds, geese and birds of prey as they make their epic journey through British Columbia!

World Migratory Bird Day is on May 8th, 2010 and you can celebrate across British Columbia with different events or on your own at many birding locales along the Pacific Flyaway, a major north-south route of travel for migratory birds along the west coast of the Americas.World Migratory Bird Day falls on May 8th, 2010.

  • INTERNATIONAL MIGRATORY BIRD DAY AT COLONY FARM | May 8th | 1:00pm - 4:00pm | Port Coquitlam (map) | Free | Learn about herons, wildlife and the Park's history, take a guided nature walk in search of the Lazuli Bunting and children can plant a pot for mother's day. | Website

  • GEORGE C. REIFEL MIGRATORY BIRD SANCTUARY | Delta, British Columbia (map) | Check out the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary which is a haven for a wide range of bird species throughout the year.
  • BOUNDARY BAY | Delta, British Columbia (map) | Boundary Bay is one of the most significant stops along the Pacific Flyaway with birds of all shapes and sizes stopping at this critical rest point.
  • MAPLEWOOD FLATS CONSERVATION AREA | North Vancouver, British Columbia (map) | Maplewood Flats Conservation Areais the last remaining marshland found along Indian Arm and is a stop for many species of migratory bird as well as nesting species such as Osprey.
