2011 World Migratory Bird Day in British Columbia

The coast of British Columbia is an important migratory route for hundreds of species of birds which make their way along the Pacific Flyaway during the Spring and Autumn migration. South-western British Columbia is a vital resting point for migrating shorebirds, songbird, ducks and other bird species making this twice yearly journey. Take part in an International Migratory Bird Day event or visit one of the Lower Mainland's birding locales including the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary, Mud Bay, Maplewood Flats, Boundary Bay and many more.

Celebrate birds during World Migratory Bird Day on May 14-15, 2011!Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day in British Columbia with events happening along the Pacific Flyaway. Join birding walks, celebrations, demonstrations and more or grab your binoculars, camera and bird book to spot birds in park lands or even your own backyard!

BEST BIRD WATCHING
• STANLEY PARK | Various Locations (park map) | Visit Vancouver's largest park, home to hundreds of birds and a temporary stopping point for thousands more migrating along the Pacific Flyaway. Visit the Lost Lagoon and Beaver Lake to see ducks, herons and swans; walk along the Seawall to spot shorebirds and ducks or walk through the interior of the park to see songbirds, woodpeckers and even Owls!
• MAPLEWOOD FLATS CONSERVATION AREA | Maplewood Conservation Area: Dollarton Highway at Daly Street, North Vancouver (map) | The Maplewood Flats along Indian Arm are the last remaining tidal mudflats found on the North Shore and offer a temporary home to many species such as Osprey, Hummingbirds and Crossbills. | Website

• BOUNDARY BAY REGIONAL PARK | Boundary Bay Regional Park: Look for the Park turn off along Boundary Bay Road, Delta, (map) | During low tide, shorebirds flock to the shallow bay to feast - making it one of the most significant stops along the migratory Pacific Flyaway (Boundary Bay is internationally recognized as an important bird area). | Website
