The Retail Store adjoining the Brewery and Taproom sells Granville Island Beer as well as seasonal limited edition varieties.
The Granville Island Brewery located under the Granville Street Bridge has been an important part of the Island's rise as a tourist destination after the region's revitalization in the 1970s.
Established in 1984, the Granville Island Brewery opened as Canada's first Microbrewery, meaning it produces only a finite amount of beer within a year - however, with growing demand its operations have expanded with satellite Breweries opening in the Okanagan Valley and Kelowna.
The Granville Island Brewery focuses on a line of beers which includes year round products ( English Bay Pale Ale, Cypress Honey Lager, Gastown Amber Ale, Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale, Brockton India Pale Ale and its original beer: Granville Island Lager) as well as limited release beers (Robson Street Hefeweizen [Summer], Oktoberfest [Fall], Merry Monks Doppelbock, Scottish Ale and Lions Winter Ale [Winter], Killarney Stout [St. Patrick's Day] and Ginger Beer [Spring]). Named for local Vancouver boroughs and locales, the Brewery embodies the spirit of the city it was created within and the city has embraced it as evidence of the umbrellas, signs and advertisements in almost every local pub in the region.
The larger operations have since been moved to the interior of British Columbia, but its doors are still open, experimenting with old beers and creating new ones. Visitors to Granville Island can take a Brewery Tour offered daily at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. The adjoining Taproom and Retail Store allow visitors to test out and purchase (or taste) a variety of beers including limited releases.
Open throughout the year, seven days a week, the Granville Island Brewery is an integral part of the Island offering visitors an unforgettable local experience.
