When the Brockton Point Lighthouse was built permanently on the north-eastern edge of Stanley Park the plan was to built a boathouse underneath the lighthouse - that plan was abandoned when the treacherous tides made navigation difficult and when the seawall was constructed the arches were left as a passageway under the Brockton Point Lighthouse.
