Canteen Found in Flanders Field at Royal Westminster Regiment Museum, New Westminster

Along with dozens of artifacts some of the most startling are those found strewn throughout Flanders Field such as this German canteen. The note at the bottom reads: "Found in Flanders Field, Belgium this 1914-18 Canteen. It is filled with water from the Melfa River, Italy where Major J.K. Mahony won the Victoria Cross, 24 May, 1944. A 1974 one PF German coin has been embedded on top of the cork and then sealed with wax. Donated by R. Westmr R. Cpl. Herb Rickards who was attached to 3 Mech Commando in 1974."
