View from Bastion at Fort Langley National Historic Site, Fort Langley

Image from Fort Langley National Historic Site activity in Things to do in Langley

The fortifications and bastions provided protection, a lookout and shelter during Fort Langley's early years and many of them faced the Fraser River - the main means of approach.

The Bastions - the wooden huts along Fort Langley's fortifications - were used as lookout stations and temporary housing for colonists. Fort Langley had at least three bastions, two of which overlooked the main approach to the fort - the river to protect it.
