Oxbox at Kanaka Creek Regional Park Foreshore, Maple Ridge

Image from Kanaka Creek Regional Park activity in Things to do in Maple Ridge

The foreshore of Kanaka Creek Regional Park is composed of a large oxbow which empties into the Fraser River.

Oxbows such as the one at the end of Kanaka Creek before it empties into the Fraser River are created as the water seeks the path of least resistance and curves in on itself in a formation called an oxbow which eventually will be cut off from the main channel to form a u-shaped pond.
