Where Vancouver was Named, Gastown

The distinctive name for the city of Vancouver was picked under the shade of maple trees in the exact spot the plaque is placed near the Gassy Jack Statue.

Most cities in the world have no idea what the name of their city means, let along where it was named. In Vancouver, the exact place where the name was chosen was under a grove of maple leaves in that exact same spot. Those trees are most likely ancestors of the ones that currently shade the statue today.
