Woven Cedar Root Baskets at the Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre, Whistler

Image from Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre activity in Things to do in Whistler

Many traditional techniques of making baskets can be seen at the Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre and use a variety of materials found in the reion.

Baskets play an important part in the Squamish and Lil'Wat cultures in British Columbia. Created by hand using materials such as cattails, cedar and cherry bark, these baskets store foodstuffs, clothing, items used in daily life and most importantly are woven into cradles used to carry babies.
