Kayak lessons and rentals are a few of the activities avaliable to visitors to the Jericho Sailing Centre on the shores of Vancouver.
On the most westerly shores of Vancouver's Jericho beach is the Jericho Sailing Centre, a large concrete building surrounded by an enormous chain link fence. This relatively unassuming building is one of the beach's most interesting. Within its chained interior are hundreds of watercraft - everything from kayaks to large schooners used as teaching tools or privately owned by nearby citizens who take to the water throughout the year to experience English Bay's sights, sounds and water.
The Sailing Centre offers experienced teachers in a variety of boating backgrounds. It is common to see large and small boats or dozens of kayaks loaded with beginners, experts and instructors learning to navigate the shores of Vancouver or gaining certification for annual passes.
The Centre is less of a club and more geared towards community as it strives to create a foundation for residents, visitors and nearby students to learn the fundamentals of a variety of boat types and sizes as well as a myriad of sports.
The numerous instructed courses or for experienced persons, rentals is a new element to the activities offered in the Vancouver Region. Taking advantage of both land and water (as well as air), the Jericho Sailing Centre - located on Jericho Beach is a perfect place to enjoy some of the city's most unique experiences that caters to individuals, groups and families.
