Located 32 kilometres northwest of Courtenay, British Columbia, Mount Washington Alpine Resort is one of two ski resorts found on Vancouver Island. Surrounded by lush temperate rainforest on either side, the resort offers a spectacular locale with over 1,700 acres of terrain set amidst the Vancouver Island Ranges with a world famous snow pack which received a record setting 19 metre snowfall in 2010.

Named after Rear Admiral John Washington, the official Hydrographer of the British Royal Navy in the 1860s, Mount Washington Alpine Resort was opened in 1979 and got its start as a rough road and two chairlifts cut into the wilderness. In just over forty years, Mount Washington has grown into a world renowned ski resort with several lifts over a dozen runs and a beautiful village. The mountains has also become a popular summer destination, offering a wide range of activities for all ages.

In Winter, Mount Washington is in its element - its legendary 10.5 meters of average annual snowfall offers some of the world's most deepest snow packs. Winter activities include Alpine skiing (with over 60 trails) [alpine trail map], Nordic skiing (with over 55 of kilometres of trails) [nordic trail map], snow tubing and snowshoeing [snowshoe trail map]. During Summer, the mountain and adjoining Strathcona Provincial Park offer mountain biking [trail map], hiking [hiking trail map], camping, festivals, competitions, activities in the Village, dining, sightseeing and wildlife viewing such as rare sightings of the Vancouver Island Marmot. From the summit of Mount Washington (at an elevation of 1588 meters), Park visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Strathcona Provincial Park, the Comox Glacier, Mount Arrowsmith, the Strait of Georgia, British Columbia's mainland and even Mount Baker on clear days.
