The History of Port Metro Vancouver dates back to the start of the 1800s when early explorers recognized the region's trading potential. Today, Port Metro Vancouver is Canada's biggest and busiest Port, trading $75 billion in goods with more than 130 trading economies each year.
The Port Metro Vancouver Discovery Centre has a large open space consisting of several screens which play videos dealing the day to day operations of the Port, games on monitors, a large map of the location of the many loading and unloading areas, pictures, a progression of the history of the Port and even scale models of Cargo Ships just like the ones that can be spotted in the Burrard Inlet and in English Bay. Visitors can also take the opportunity to learn more about the Cargo Ships at the Vancouver Maritime Museum located in Vanier Park.
