Take the opportunity to experience an urban farmyard in the heart of New Westminster's Queen's Park. Since the 1880s, the Queen's Park Petting Zoo is the perfect place to enjoy an outing amongst animals including goats, a jersey calf, pigs, rabbits, geese, ducks, chickens and peacocks from Victoria Day long weekend to Labour Day long weekend.

Located in the centre of New Westminster's 75 acre Queen's Park (not to be confused with Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver), the Queen's Park Petting Zoo is a popular destination for children and adults alike. The Petting Zoo is part of the Park's Rainbow Playland which also encompasses a playground, a spray park (the first in the Province) and a concession stand.

The Petting Zoo has been an attraction in the region since the late 1800s. In 1905 a proposal for a city run zoo was submitted by New Westminster's Fire Department Chief and the Provincial Jail Warden and in 1906 the Petting Zoo was opened as an official city attraction.

The Queen's Park Petting Zoo is home to a wide variety of creatures including goats, a jersey calf, pigs, rabbits, geese, ducks, chickens and peacocks. Often the Zoo also is a temporary home for cats up for adoption from local animal shelters can also be petted. There are also several volunteers on site to introduce children to the animals and provide a unique educational experience for many urban children who do not have the opportunity to meet farm animals. The City of New Westminster also offers summer programs at the Petting Zoo which allows children the opportunity to see what its like to be a farmer by collecting eggs, brushing sheep, mucking stalls and feeding the farm animals.

Enjoy a trip to the Queen's Park Petting Zoo in New Westminster and visit the many animals which provide families the opportunity to enjoy an urban farmyard from Victoria Day weekend to Labour Day weekend.
