Visit the stunning Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park in Parksville which offers visitors a year round natural locale to explore. From it's old growth forests to its seemingly endless shallow beaches, the Park offers visitors a variety of unique activities to enjoy including camping, beach combing, swimming, kayaking, hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing (in Spring, thousands of Brant Geese), interpretive programs and a nature house.

Encompassing a unique combination of old growth forest and expansive shallow beaches, Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is a popular year round destination - especially in the summer months.

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park was named for the Irish family, the Rath's, who once owned a homesteaded in the region. William Rath, a gold prospector, arrived in 1886 with his wife Elizabeth and infant daughter to settle in the area. After building a log cabin they cleared the land and built the barn in 1895. William died in 1903 and Elizabeth Rath along with the couple's five children successfully ran the farm and later converted it to a campground. "Trevor" was added to the campground's name to make it sound more lyrical. Rathtrevor Campground became Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park in 1967. Today, Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is encompasses 347 hectares bordering the Strait of Georgia. The Park offers a wide range of activities including camping, beach combing (especially when the water recedes almost a kilometre out to sea during low tide), swimming, kayaking, hiking (the Park encompasses over five kilometres of trail through the forest or along the beach), fishing, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs and a nature house.

One of Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park's most popular events is the annual Brant Wildlife Festival which takes place in Spring along the shores of the Park as well as nearby Qualicum Beach and Parksville as thousands of Brant Geese rest and feed on the regions abundant sea life as they migrate north.

Enjoy a day amongst the Douglas fir, Western red cedar, hemlock, balsam, spruce, arbutus and maple or explore the beach during low tide - there is no shortage of things to do at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park!
